On Target Range

Check the class list below to schedule and reserve your spot!

All beginner classes include firearm rental, ammunition, targets, eye protection and hearing protection are included with your class. We strongly encourage our shooters to wear closed-toe shoes and high-necked shirts. We are also excited to offer a set of classes specifically geared toward women and their unique shooting needs. These classes are taught by our NRA-certified female instructors.
On Target has an experienced NRA-certified staff to fulfill your training needs in a safe and friendly atmosphere. Other ranges may copy our programs, but they don’t come close to matching the superior methodology implemented in our curriculum. Our staff are qualified instructors who are NRA-certified in multiple disciplines, such as Pistol, Rifle, Personal Protection in the Home, and Personal Protection Outside the Home. Please click on the links below to access the event calendar.
Must be 21 or older to take these classes due to the new CA law AB2571

Better Half Gun Club

Join us at the range every Wednesday morning and 2nd and 4th Thursday evenings throughout the month for interesting and informative discussions, then some fun on the range. Our On Target staff will lead the discussions and supervise your shoot. Each week, you will have a new opportunity to improve your marksmanship, shoot different firearms and work up to more advanced shooting skills! Best of all, you’ll have the opportunity to join us for special shooting events throughout the year: Zombie Shoot, Fruit Shoot, Glass Shoot, Ornament Shoot, and more!

Basic Handgun - Level 1

This class is taught by NRA-certified instructors. By the end of this class, you will be able to shoot safely and correctly. It includes instruction in the classroom, as well as shooting time on the range. Students must bring valid, government-issued photo identification in order to shoot. We will provide everything else! Check our calendar for scheduled classes.

Transitional Handgun - Level 2

Bring your own gun! This 1-hour class is designed for shooters who want extra training with their personal firearm. Students are led by an instructor through a series of exercises to help transition from a .22lr target pistol to a firearm that is chambered in a larger caliber. Students must be able to demonstrate basic safety and proficiency with a firearm before signing up for this class. Shooters will go through 50-100 rounds and must supply their own ammunition. (Ammo is available for purchase at On Target.) If students want to rent a gun from our rental board instead of use their personal firearm, they may pay an extra $10 fee to rent. (Rental guns must use ammunition from On Target.)

Intermediate Handgun - Level 3

Bring your own gun! This 1.5-hour class will give shooters the opportunity to dive deeper into the fundamentals of shooting. They will become more familiar with their personal firearm as they learn how to clear jams, shoot from the low-ready position, practice rapid-fire and double-tap drills, and more. Shooters will go through 100 rounds and must supply their own ammunition. (Ammo is available for purchase at On target.)

This course is designed for experienced shooters who are preparing to take the OCSD-approved Concealed Carry initial class. The course covers:
How to apply for your CCW permit
How to safely draw your firearm from a holster
Firearm familiarity and how to clear a stoppage
Double-tap and rapid fire practice on the range
Students should bring their own firearm, along with an outside-the-waistband holster. (No collapsible or SERPA holsters!) 100 rounds of ammunition is required. Ammunition will be available for purchase at the time of the class.

CCW Initial Class

This 8-hour class is approved by Orange County Sheriff’s Department and is required to obtain a CCW permit. Students should know how to safely draw from a holster prior to taking this class. Learn the laws regarding carrying a concealed firearm. Bring a stiff belt, strongside holster, 200 rounds for your primary firearm and 40 rounds for each additional firearm. Holsters must be outside-the-waistband and cannot have a release mechanism (button, lever, etc.) You may qualify 5 firearms maximum during the class. As per Orange County Sheriff’s Department requirements, each applicant must be able to break down and clean their primary firearm. This must be witnessed by the instructor. Bring all necessary cleaning materials, and make sure you know how to break down your primary firearm for cleaning. If you do not have the necessary cleaning materials, On Target has them available for purchase.

CCW Renewal Classes

This 4-hour class is approved by OCSD to renew your CCW permit. This refresher course reviews CCW laws. The course of fire meets OCSD-required renewal qualification standards. Bring 72 rounds for your primary firearm and 20 rounds for each additional firearm. You may qualify 5 firearms maximum during the class. If you wish to ADD more, you must come in during normal business hours to do so.

Rifle Card Qualification (Mandatory Safety Briefing)

This is the required class that will enable you to shoot high-powered rifles at On Target. Students will participate in a safety lesson specifically for high-powered rifles and then complete a quick qualifying shoot to demonstrate safe handling of a rifle. We will then issue you an On Target Rifle Card that is valid for two years. (Rifle Card renewals are free, and a shooting demonstration is not required.) Rifle cards are issued to a specific individual and are not transferable. Any misuse of the rifle card will result in expulsion from the range and removal of rifle card privileges. Registration is not required for this class.

Women's Basic Handgun Level 1

On-Target’s Women’s Program is designed to create a comfortable experience for women Students and other new shooters. We find that our novice lady shooters (as well as other new shooters) benefit from instruction by a female instructor who caters to their unique needs of women and other not comfortable with a “traditional” instructor, resulting in a more productive learning experience. It is our goal to make every student SAFE, COMFORTABLE, and ACCURATE with a firearm. As with all our classes, everyone is welcome to attend as there are no restrictions other than age. Must be 21 or have a Parent or Guardian with you.

Shotgun class

Our goal with the Shotgun Class is to help students find out which shotgun they want to buy and help those who already own a shotgun become more comfortable with it. Students will learn the correct safety rules and fundamentals needed to use shotguns effectively. They will also learn about the diverse types of shotguns and ammunition in order to come away from the class with a more refined knowledge of how a shotgun works.

Private Lessons

Private lessons are available for those that want individual instruction. Most private lessons are scheduled for a strict one-on-one, but the instructor reserves the right to schedule 1 or 2 others if the instruction level, goals, etc. are similar. Lessons are available strictly Monday through Friday. Please call 949-348-0352 ext. 2 or come in to schedule a private lesson with one of our NRA-certified instructors.
